What does a partnership with SDB look like?
Dentistry presents many opportunities for growth with the right entrepreneurial mindset. Dr. Jeff Burg discusses taking risks and embracing creativity.
As an orthodontist, there are so many hats I felt like I was wearing on a daily basis. Since partnering with Specialty Dental Brands, I’ve been able to offload at least half of those hats. I go home at night and I truly feel like my family time has become a less distracted family time. For me, that’s the greatest value, is having the ability to be a little less focused on my practice when I’m away from it.
Making the decision to join with a DSO can be a hard and emotional decision, but as my partner and I looked at the market and evaluated potential partners, we found out that Specialty Dental Brands had the same vision we had. They’re a true partner in helping us grow and take advantage of the orthodontic marketplace. They’ve been awesome to work with and we really appreciate their expertise and the trust they’ve placed in us.
For other dental providers considering DSO options, I would advise that you spend the time investigating what the possibilities are for you and what’s a good fit. Why wouldn’t you at least take the time to figure out whether your life could be a little bit easier, and your financial future can be more secure by partnering with a DSO
The one thing that stands out to me with Specialty Dental Brands is the emphasis on partnership. It doesn’t feel like someone is coming in, taking over, changing the name of my practice, and telling me what to do. They’re partnering with me and helping me do what I do, but better. I appreciate feeling like I’m bringing someone on to help more than bringing someone on to take over my practice.
FOLLOWING MY INITIAL CONTACT WITH SPECIALTY DENTAL BRANDS, I KNEW THEIR MANAGEMENT OFFERINGS WERE EXACTLY WHAT MY PRACTICE NEEDED GOING FORWARD. THE MOST APPEALING ASPECT WAS MAINTAINING CLINICAL AUTONOMY AND CONTINUING TO MAKE EVERY DECISION ON BEST TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR MY PATIENTS. SPECIALTY DENTAL BRANDS HAS BEEN THE RIGHT PARTNER AND HELPED MY TEAM EMBRACE THIS EVER-CHANGING WORLD OF DENTISTRY.

That passion led Dr. Ryan to complete a rigorous two-year pediatric dental residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. In 2008 he was awarded his Master of Science.
The pediatric dental residency provided Dr. Ryan with extensive experience in all facets of dental care for infants, children, and people with special needs. The program offered exposure to the latest techniques and technologies used in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral disease. It also taught operating room procedures, oral conscious sedation, and the use of nitrous oxide (laughing gas).
Dr. Ryan has been certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and CPR. Each year he participates in many continuing education courses. This ensures he remains current on advances in treatment strategies, techniques, materials, and technology.
